Over the past three years, the European School of Alicante has undergone a remarkable artistic transformation, thanks to the dedication of British artist Justin Neal. As a parent of twins in P4 and a former vice-president of the Parents’ Association (AMPA), Justin has been instrumental in integrating art into various aspects and entrances and walls across the campus, significantly enriching the school’s environment. This work has, in part, been financed through the AMPA Dreams fund which supports school-based projects.

Professional Background of Justin Neal

Justin Neal is a creative artist, project manager, and educator with extensive experience across public and private sectors. He holds a Diploma in Arts Foundation from the Wimbledon School of Art, London, and a Fine Art Degree from Falmouth College of Arts, UK.
Throughout his career, Justin has led projects that have transformed urban environments through a process of community engagement.

Recent Project at the European School of Alicante

In his most recent initiative, Justin is collaborating closely with teachers and approximately 400 students from the nursery and primary sections to transform the entrance to the school’s underground garage into an aquarium-themed mural. During workshops held in recent weeks, each student drew and colored a marine creature. This project not only aims to beautify the school environment but also fosters creativity and a sense of belonging among students, while addressing environmental themes through the marine motif.

Exhibition at the EUIPO Art Gallery

The artwork created by the students for this latest project will also be showcased in the art gallery of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) as part of the annual «In-Service Training for Management Staff of the European Schools Network» commemoration. The Director-General of the European School of Alicante, Giancarlo Marcheggiano, has the honour of hosting this event in Alicante for a second, consecutive, year. The event will take place on March 21st and 22nd, with the training sessions on the first day at the EUIPO offices and on the second day at the European School of Alicante. The exhibition will provide a unique opportunity for the educational community and the public to appreciate the talent and creativity of our young students. The final artwork will be installed at the school after the exhibition.

Justin’s dedication to integrating art into community and educational spaces has left an indelible mark on our school. His ability to engage the community and transform everyday spaces into enriching artistic experiences is truly inspiring.
