Dear parents, your AMPA management committee needs YOU!
In order to get off to a flying start of the next school year, 2022-2023, we are looking to reinforce our team and in particular, to replace a couple of key members who are leaving Alicante or stepping down for other reasons.
As you may know, the school has no obligation to organise extracurricular activities for nursery and primary nor school transport. To make sure that these crucial services can continue to be provided in the future, it is really important that we have enough manpower in the AMPA Management Committee.
Our brilliant Treasurer, Anna Babiarz, will be relocating to Luxembourg with her family, so we are looking for somebody to fill this key position. Anna has listed her main responsibilities below, but assures us that the job is not too time consuming. She finds it interesting and rewarding as it gives a broad overview of all activities that concern parents and students. Anna will remain in her post until the end of the current school year and will be happy to work alongside her successor to ensure a smooth transition. She says it is useful to be fairly good with numbers but you certainly don’t need professional accounting skills.
The Treasurer’s regular duties include:
- making regular transfers (a few every month);
- delivering invoices to accounting company;
- collecting invoices on our AMPA drive;
- responding to any inquiries about payments and checking that those payments are in line with the budget;
- liaising with the bank;
- making payments for students who do not have their own bank account: like yearly CoSup (the Student Union of the European Schools) payments and some other payments they need to make;
- generating a monthly bank statement and delivering to our accountant;
- ad hoc assistance with questions about finances and procedures;
- preparing a yearly budget and presenting it for approval first to the AMPA Management Committee and then to the General Assembly;
- follow-up of the yearly budget and preparing an overview of yearly accounts.
Another key position in the AMPA management team which is currently vacant is the Primary School representative. S/he should have at least one child in the ESA primary school (any language section) and the main role is to ensure the liaison with AMPA and Nursery and Primary School Management in all matters related to nursery and primary school.
We are also looking for one person with the special task to look after matters of Well-being in the broadest sense, ranging from security and health (mental and physical) to cases of perceived bullying. This responsibility includes contacts with the various appropriate fora, also under Inter-parents, the forum regrouping the parent associations of all European schools.
Apart from these dedicated vacancies, we would also welcome additional members in the management committee, who can join any group they are interested in and/or help out with ad hoc-projects. In the interest of a gender balanced and representative committee we hope to see applications from both mums and dads!
More information about how we work in the management committee as well as the application form can be found on the AMPA website in Spanish and in English. If you have any thoughts or questions you are welcome to contact any of us at any time! We look forward to hearing from you!
