Dear families,
We hope that you have had a wonderful Easter holiday which will allow you to enjoy the last term of this academic year with enthusiasm, renewed strength and a lot of excitement.
During the Easter holidays the school canteen has undergone some changes.
The need for acoustic and visual improvement to the school canteen has been discussed since 2016/2017 in the different forums with the school management.
In 2022-2023, AMPA took up this necessary but forgotten project for the dining hall, creating a more acoustically and visually welcoming space for the pupils, monitors, teachers and dining hall staff.
A huge thanks to Sara Portela, who during this and last school year has contacted and met different companies in order to find out the needs and possibilities that best suit our school canteen, has made proposals to and organised the meetings with the school management, to introduce different projects.
Finally, the proposal of the company EliAcoustic was selected.
The cost of the project has been fully financed by AMPA, using the credit accumulated in the Guarantee Fund since the signing of the contract with the company Ausolan in 2016/2017.
This fund is constituted with 3% of the canteen fees paid by families, in order to ensure coverage in case of any incident or legal liability.
The balance has been left at the disposal of AMPA, for the realisation of projects in the school canteen.
A very small part of this fund has already been used for the organisation of the cooking courses for S6 and S7 pupils.
With the new contract signed between the School and Ausolan for the canteen service, beginning in August 2024, without direct involvement of AMPA, it was necessary to use the remaining funds urgently. The soundproofing project presented a perfect opportunity to finally improve the canteen conditions.
We are happy to inform families that this long awaited project has finally been completed during the Easter holidays.

In addition to an important visual improvement, the material used will reduce the acoustic reverberation, thus improving the overall acoustics of the hall.
The colours chosen refer to the local colours (the blue of the sky and the sea, the yellows and oranges of the sunrises and sunsets), undulating in the form of waves.
The notes of the Ode to Joy, the anthem of the European Union, have been illustrated on the staves that cover the end walls.
A “tree” of coexistence has been planted in the children’s area, so that the little ones can decorate it to the rhythm of the seasons, birthdays and other occasions, and improve the acoustics at their height.
The welcome from pupils and staff has been great when the children returned to school after the Easter holidays on Monday 8 April.
We hope that we have contributed to making the dining hall – a place for socialising and relaxation – a more pleasant space for the whole school community and especially for the pupils.
We are happy to let you know that you have the opportunity to see the refurbished school canteen during the cocktail offered after AMPA Talk on Friday 19 April.
