Christmas Market at the European School of Alicante: A Success of Joy and Solidarity

Last week, the European School of Alicante celebrated the Christmas Market once again, one of its most endearing events where families, students and teachers gathered to share a space full of warmth, fun and solidarity. This year, at the AMPA second-hand market, second-hand toys, books and also costumes were on sale, thus promoting values of sustainability and reuse.

From the first moment, the response from families was overwhelming. We received dozens of bags and boxes full of items, so many that it was necessary to spread tarps on the ground to display them.

In the toy section, the children experienced a true mini cosmos of imagination. Each toy, no matter how small, awakened the joy of a child, giving it a second life full of meaning. Parent volunteers, meanwhile, became improvised booksellers and librarians, recommending stories and novels. Hundreds of books, in multiple languages, quickly found new homes thanks to the enthusiasm of families and the interest of the little ones.

The food table also had its star moment. A group of primary school girls decided to take charge of the sale, playing at being cashiers and contributing their energy to offer chocolate cakes and delicious Italian donuts that flew thanks to their taste and dedication.

During the beginning, the market already took on a magical air with the voices of the children’s choir that welcomed the Christmas spirit. The little ones braved the cold and humidity by jumping between the bouncy castles, filling the atmosphere with laughter and excitement.

One of the most anticipated moments was the arrival of Santa Claus, who welcomed hundreds of excited children in his decorated house. Seeing their faces full of excitement was, without a doubt, the finishing touch to this event.

Finally, we cannot forget Rafiki’s table, whose handmade products made by Ugandan seamstresses caused a sensation, as did the Solidarity Buses cups and bags, which quickly sold out.

The 2024 Christmas Market was a resounding success thanks to the love and dedication of all the families, students and teachers who participated. In total, a total of €3,013.08 has been raised from sales.

This event not only promotes solidarity and recycling, but is also an opportunity to celebrate the unity of our school community around the joy of these dates. See you next year with more excitement and surprises, happy holidays to all!
