Congratulations to the school musical team!
European School of Alicante school musical is back!!! Around 400 people – parents, siblings, teachers, school staff, former students and friends – enjoyed the two performances of The Future Rocks the weekend of 21-22 May. In spite of many challenges, and with a considerably smaller cast and setup than previous years, the show had everything to impress the audience: A captivating story, great punch lines, high energy, lovely voices, loads of charm and charisma and of course the iconic rock music by Queen – it was pure delight!
In the leading roles we saw (in order of appearance) Mardo (S6FR) as Eminem, Sofia K (S3FR), Phoebe (S3EN) Melina (S3FR) and Francesca (S3DE) as the frontline GAGA girls, Adrian (S5EN) as Galileo Figaro, Nerea (S5DE) as the teacher, Davids (S6EN) as Kashoggi, Olivia (S6ES) as Killer Queen, Ella (S7EN) as Scaramouche, Maciej (S5EN) as Brit(ney Spears) and Paula (S7ES) as Elton John. Doubling up as GAGA kids, super yuppies, doctors, secret police and Bohemians were also Marcela (S5DE), Hannes (S2DE), Mireia (S5EN), Clara (S5EN), Natalia (S1EN), Antoinette (S7FR) and Estelle (S3FR). As a nice complement to the playback music, masterfully managed by the brilliant sound team, Marc (S6ES) accompanied a couple of ballads with beautiful arrangements, which he created together with the soloists.
The musical was the culmination of almost an entire school year of intense extra-curricular work, with rehearsals twice a week, voice coaching, character studies, team building, choreography, search for appropriate costumes, accessories and props, set building, frustration and lots of good laughs. The teachers that again took on the job of leading the process from start to finish, managed, planned, liaised, adapted, changed, pushed, pulled, encouraged and disciplined were Debbie Nicholson and Tony Prior. They were supported by a small but dedicated team of volunteers, both parents and students, who helped with the multitude of jobs that are generated by even a small-scale event of this kind.
On behalf of all parents, AMPA representatives brought flowers to all participants at the premiere on Saturday night and would like, once again, to congratulate the cast and crew to this great achievement. You make our school proud, especially as we are the only European School who has this enjoyable tradition!
