Dear Families,

We take advantage of this opportunity to bring you a few updates in relation to the School Transport Services for next school year and beyond.

First, MiSol, the current service provider, will continue working with us for the year 2023/2024 after a joint letter of intent was co-signed by AMPA and the European School cementing the relationship for the next school year.

Second, MiSol will contact all the families currently using the service to ask for their plans for the 2023/2024 school year in order to draft the routing plan; please be aware that every year the routes may change based on demand and feasibility.

Last, from September 2024, the European School of Alicante will no longer co-sign the transport service providers´ contract. This unfortunate turn of events caused by the changes made to the European Schools General Rules means that AMPA would have to assume the legal responsibilities associated with the signing of a commercial contract and due to the legal structure of AMPA, it is something we are unable to do.

In practical terms this means that, according to the European Schools General Rules, the parents are directly responsible to organise the transport to and from the school. Therefore, from the school year 2024/2025 the organisation of the school bus service will be changed.

In different European Schools various alternatives have been set up by the parents such as car-pooling or a parallel non-profit organisation with a legal status and structure that allows them to manage the transport service provider directly without AMPA supervision.

If you have any specific questions or proposals on the matter, please note that it will be one of the topics to discuss at AMPA´s General Assembly for the school year 2023/2024 and we look forward to seeing you all there.
